The Apple ecosystem is great, but sometimes we need a device to do some work. And I feel an iPad isn’t the best device to reach for that task.

It's always interesting to see how people work, what devices they use, what phones they have, etc.
I personally only have an iPhone and a Mac.
No, I don't have an iPad.
And the reason I don't have an iPad is quite simple.
The phone is always with me.
I have the Macs.
It's actually four years old, I think, this one.
Works fine.
It's the big screen, so I don't need an iPad.
I've got my MacBook Pro and I love it.
It's an M1.
It's one of the first M1s.
And, you know, it does everything.
I make all these videos on it.
I remote into servers.
I remote into clients.
Video calls everything on these two devices.
So it doesn't matter where I am, I have these two devices with me.
Obviously, if I'm walking a dog, I'm only got the phone.
But the point is, I don't have an iPad.
And it's quite simple.
I don't need another device to distract me from the work that I want to do.
Now, some people need the iPad for their work.
If you're a illustrator or a painter or something like the creative in that sense, it's great to have it.
But personally, I don't think an iPad is a computer.
Now, that's blasphemous to some people, but I really don't.
I think it's a media device that does lots of things, but I don't think it's a work device that you can actually get that much work done.
That's my personal take.
Now, I know people are going to come in the comments and say, oh, I use a computer.
I use an iPad as a computer.
Yes, you can.
I'm not saying you can't.
But the general layman shouldn't and can't.
The tech guy who are probably writing these messages, can and do, and that's fine.
But I don't think the iPad should be your primary device to go to for doing actual work.
And I say actual work, and I mean running your business, actually doing your work.
It's not great to do it.
Now, you may have gone from a Mac to an iPad and thought, this is great, it's simple, I can move around, which obviously you can.
But I bet you you can't do half the things the Mac can do.
So there's just no point having an iPad for me anyway.
So again, I've simplified my business.
I've simplified the devices I need, i.e. phone and Mac camera.
And that's all I need to run my business.
And obviously the software on it.
So having more and more devices isn't going to help you generally do your work because you're constantly figuring out, oh, does this need updating?
Does that need updating?
Have I got the latest software?
Would this software work with this?
Shall I use these shortcuts on my iPad?
It's like, geez, come on, just get on with your work.
You don't need to play with your devices and your software to get your work done.
You shouldn't have to.
So again, I don't use an iPad.
I don't think it's worth it.
And personally, I think it's more of a media device and a consuming device than an actual working and inputting device.
I hate inputting stuff on an iPad.
I don't really like it on the phone, but it's in my pocket.
It's small, and if I really need to do something, I can.
But if I need to do work, actual work, I do it all on a MacBook Pro.
Let me know what you think about an iPad.
Do you use an iPad for your work?
Or do you use it just to watch Netflix in bed?
I mean, that is kind of useful, but I don't even do that.
I do actually have an iPad, but it's really old, and I don't really, I don't think I've even turned it on for the past year and a half, maybe even two years.
So anyway, let me know.
