We know the saying 'if it's free, you're the product' but did you also know that just because you're using a free email service you wouldn't be paying for it in some other way?
Transcript
This past week I've actually had a few clients, quite a few clients actually, having problems with their email service.
Whether it's full, whether their computer is full because they have too many emails, whether it just isn't working on their phone or so on.
And a couple of them I'm moving over to different services, the best one for them actually.
I use different services actually depending on what they actually need.
And some of them actually don't want to move to a paid service.
Now, free isn't free.
Now, obviously, all these people were using free services from Planet or from their service provider or from their website provider and so on.
But just because you're actually getting your email for free because a couple of them don't want to move over to a paid service doesn't actually mean it's not free. and the payment comes from the time wasted.
The payment comes from you losing your email.
The payment comes from your computer being completely fucked up, basically.
And how does your computer get fucked up with email?
Well, if you're using Apple Mail, and Apple Mail is fantastic.
It's probably one of the best email services there is.
However, if you're using Apple Mail, it downloads all those emails.
Now, if you're a designer, one of them is. you're getting, I mean, she's basically getting a bunch of emails with attachments, and they all add up.
So she has like 130 gig of data just in the email.
They're not duplicates or anything.
It's individual emails because a lot of people are sending her a lot of Illustrator files, Photoshop files and stuff.
Now, there are limits on certain email services that you can't send out massive attachments, But if you're getting lots of little attachments, then it just is going to add up basically.
So going back to free, not free, free isn't free.
You are wasting time.
You're wasting way more time than you think you are by spending money on people like me to getting it all fixed and organized.
Whereas if you just spent $100, I guess, a month, sorry, per year, or some services are $50 per year, some services are $12 per month.
I mean, it depends on what service, what's best for you as to which service you should use.
But just because you're on Planet or Virgin or, I don't know, Verizon or whatever it is that you're using, the free email service that you're using, and some are even using those free services for their business, which just blows my mind, to be honest.
Just because you're using those free services doesn't actually mean you're getting that email service for free because you're going to pay for it. with paying for someone like me to come in and fix it after the fact, basically.
So get your email organized, get it sorted, and get it organized in the sense that you know where your data actually is.
Is it privacy fixed?
I did such a weird sentence there.
Free isn't free, especially when it comes to your email.
So it might be a good idea to look at your email, your email service, how much time you're losing by having your email service go tits up on you and fix it.
Fix it for good.
Don't just sellotape it and say, I'll download it and delete it from the server.
Jesus, I've had lots of people doing that.
And it's a headache, more than it's worth.
Anyway, have a great day.
I'll see you tomorrow.
