Having a classic Chevy K5 Blazer in general brings its own challenges, but driving and sleeping in truck daily can put a little more strain than normal. But as long as you're on top of it all, you'll be fine.
So while I'm house/dog sitting for a family member, I thought I'd take the opportunity to fix a few things that were annoying me lately. The blower fan, the dash light that flicker when going over bumps, and the speedo needle that fell of a while back!
The fan was easy, took it out, oiled it, put it back... bingo!
The lamps in the dash are also easy, but you have t o take the whole dash of, including the dials, together to them. But as I'd already upgraded the laps to LEDs when (semi)restoring it last year, it was a breeze.
Although I had to fiddle with the LEDS to make them sit in the old plastic receivers. I made sure the receiver pins where bent inward a little to squeeze the LED connector and put some black electricians tape around them to get them to sit more snug.
The speedo dial on the other had was a different story!
There was a high pitched squeal coming from behind the dash when travelling over 40mph. I know the sound due to having the dash off last year, as I explained. The speedo is connected via a cable that in turn is connected to the transmutation.
That cable is attached to the speedo, it's a mechanical wheel that turn the speedo, at the end of the cable is a kind of flywheel that helps with all sorts of dial moving speedo stuff, it's above my pay-grade to know exactly how it works.
But that flywheel was rubbing a little and what a little cocked. so I just straightened it and tested it with a drill to mimic the car driving, and it seems to be fine.
The needle however had broken off at the stem and I'm unable to repair it, which suck, but I'm going to put it all back together again and search for a way to fix in another time.
Anyhow, here are some photos...
